Sonja Davies was one of those strong women. You know the sort - smart, canny, honest, motivated, committed, capable.

An admirable woman, by any standard.

And she was a caring woman. She spent her life battling odds and tilting at windmills; as a Member of Parliament, as a trade union leader, as as an author, as an unwed mother of a wartime baby, as a woman with tuberculosis. Truly, an impressive, inspirational character.

She wrote a book about her life, "Bread and Roses" and a movie was made. She wrote another book, Marching On.

Sonja Davies was a woman worthy of sincere admiration.
