WEDNESDAY

Let's get Mercurial; it's Wednesday.

Wednesday comes from Saxon Wodensdæg (Woden's day); Swedish Odenstag or Onsdag; from Wodin or Odin, a boss god among the people of northern Europe.

Wednesday (aka dies Mercurii) belongs to the Roman god Mercury (Woden/Odin from above). In Greek mythology, he is known as Hermes (he of the winged sandals, I believe) the messenger of the Gods and inventer of the Pan Pipes and is associated with quicksilver, a liquid mercury that contains amounts of platinum family of metals. Hermes carried a winged staff with a couple of serpents snaked around it, called a caduceus in Latin or kerykeion in Greek. This is the symbol of the medical profession.

Wednesday is therefore, I surmise, a jolly good day to go to the doctor.

Your song for Wednesday:

Oh, and if you have a spare $US 175,000 you can have one of these

Talk about mercurial, Ol' Shitbox crashed after midnight and took every piece of email Thunderbird had received in the past 4 or 5 months with it.

The word for today is now officially "fuck".
