Why do we have all these pieces of glass and china to eat off when the dog only has one bowl?

Wouldn't life be simpler if we all just had our trencher to eat out of like they did in Samuel Pepys day, with our small eating/stabbing knife and not have all the extra garbage choking up the cupboards and demanding to be washed?

It's a dog's life, you know.
