Holy plumbeting waterpipes, Batman
This is a big, scary hole in the ground.

It's Mt Etna.
I have a big scary hole, too. Three of them. And a trench.
In my front yard, fool.
We have a water leak somewhere underground. And we pretty much know where now, cos we have dug up damn near all the water lines that aren't under cobblestones and lifted/pulled three great heavy slabs of concrete out of the way (gooo cars) and cut, capped and tested and now we know all the places that it isn't, so we are left without many choices as to where it is.
I wish I hadn't blown up the weedeater the other day, that was a lot more fun that holes in the ground, although Adam wouldn't agree. But if I was using the chainsaw...

What a drag, Lee
In February 1981, Kiwi film maker >Geoff Murphy unveiled his latest movie.
was a road movie about this car

with these two guys on board

a'runnin' from the cops as they made their way from Auckland to Invercargill. With an assortment of weird companions along the way.
The managed to pretty much trash the car

before their inevitable arrest (and the final credits).
Definitely a neat little movie to add to the collection.
Noteworthy in the movie crew was Lee Tamahori, who in 1980 when the film was made was a boom operator and is now internationally recognised as film maker in his own right. He is also recently made infamous as an arrestee for soliciting sex for money from a police officer in Hollywood whilst dressed in drag.
Just thinking though... Tamahori = Tama and Hori, right? Tama = adolescent and Hori is apparently George, so bearing in kind LT is supposedly male (despite his choice of soliciting attire), does that mean he's really "Boy George" on his day off??
Just goes to show that no matter how much money, fame, skill and talent ya got, if you're a warped and stupid bastard there's a good chance the whole world is gonna hear about it.
Eh, Lee?

Oldies
One hit wonders you've forgotten you've forgotten:

Zager and Evans
"In the Year 2525" hit number one on the pop charts in 1969.

It was number one on 20 July 1969, the date of the first manned moon landing by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. That's the moon landing that Reg dragged us out of bed, into the car and a mile down the road in the middle of a cold winter's night to watch them shooting through the sky when they came home.
Ya see, space watching is a bit of a family tradition.
"In the year seventyfiveten
If God's a-coming he oughta make it by then"

Prophet or profit
Well, I finally did it; after years of listening to people talk about how great the Celestine Prophecy books were (the poor, sick bastards), I borrowed Deb's ones and got stuck in. And may I say what a dreadful load of bollocks they were, both the Celestine Prophecy and the Tenth Insight that follows it.
Of course I can say it, it's my blog.
These books are awful; bad writing, crappy dialogue, an over-abundance of spirito/psycho-babble using really big words to cover up for this author apparently ignoring Cheech and Chong's very good advice not to touch the green acid, Man. Just plain abyssmal and if you combine the two books gives you almost 500 pages of abyssmal. I've even read the first 20 pages of the third book and it's just as bad, but in a completely different sort of way. It almost makes "Conversations with God" (which I never finished and lent to Mark to read instead) good. Nah, I take it back, not even this crap can make that crap look good.
And while looking for the links to the author's site tonight, I found others who feel as I do, if not more so. And this guy does it sooo much better than me.
There are a lot of people in need of major psychological help out there.
And he smust have made a shitload of money from his little cash cows; he's sold over 10 million copies of the CP alone and a similar number of Tenth Insight. You can visit his site here, if you really must.
I think I'll go back to Angels and Demons - at least Dan Brown makes sense.

Obit
Obituary:
Pronunciation: &-'bi-ch&-"wer-E, O-, -'bi-ch&-rE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ar·ies
Etymology: Medieval Latin obituarium, from Latin obitus death
: a notice of a person's death usually with a short biographical account
- obit·u·ar·ist /-'bi-ch&-"w&r-ist, -'bi-ch&-rist/ noun
- obituary adjective
Ever wondered what they'll say about you when you are gone? Ever considered what someone might carve on your tomb?
I have...
Here she lies scattered
It took little cash
We burned her all up
Not only her stash.
I wonder if they would burn me on the spot and chuck a few ounces under me and send me off in such a way that everyone has a good time.
Yeah, and after playing "Comfortably Numb" they could follow up with James Blunt "High". Sounds like one hell of a party, almost makes ya look forward to it, dunnit.

Besides, he's such a cutie.

In a young sort of way
*sigh*
"But now I'm high; running wild among all the stars above.
Sometimes it's hard to believe you remember me." - James Blunt

Hoe down
I guess everyone knows what porn is and that many men and women like to look at porn. Sometimes it gets them into trouble with their spouse (hehe like Colin when the lil woman blew a fuse about him spending so much time gazing and boobs she couldn't hope to emulate), or their parents/kids and sometimes the porn is real nasty and the police get involved. This last scenario tends to hit the headlines whenever it involves a police employee or school teacher, especially when it's a work PC bogged down with kids doing the nasty.
Cos it IS nasty.
The other side of porn is that it wouldn't exist if there weren't people sick enough, warped enough to want to take their clothes off, spread their legs and show the whole world where daddy hit them with the axe. From the look on their faces, these women must either be very good actresses, or really love what they do.
One poor, sick bitch, world infamous in her own country and a legend in her own lunchtime is Liz Shaw. So infamous that she is even on Wiki. Not only is Loose knickers Liz reknown for her hilarious audition on NZ Idol where she rarked up the judges at audition time, she has been banned from more online forums that most of us have heard of (for comments such as "I think paedophilia is okay as long as the kids enjoy it"), is reknown for having sex in public places and flashing her minge at all and sundry, been profiled in the Sunday News, made the 2005 North and South Magazine "Shameless Publicity Stunts" nomination and is now (according to her) an employee of a national charity as a telemarketer soliciting funds to provide education to stop teenage suicide.
Having read many of her posts on various forums around the net, I think she is more likely to cause teenage suicide. Ignorant, immature, abusive and thoroughly lacking in any form of social discernment, after her outings today on the Trade Me message board, somehow I don't think the Young New Zealanders' Foundation (that she said she worked for) is going to require her services much longer. Not much longer at all.
And she revels in her notoriety, crows about her "performance" and pats herself on the back every chance she gets. I guess it will serve her well when she finishes Radio school and begins her political career, which she insists is next on her agenda. Mind you, I think she would be great as a member of the Christian Heritage party; she can take over from Graham Capill. I hear they are short a pervert.
Which brings me round to the point of this post; that there must be (in my mind) something wrong with a 19 year old woman who is so hell-bent on garnering public ridicule and I can't help but think to myself "what the fuck is up with this chick?".
Do young women take special courses at college to prepare them for a career in flange-flashing? Do they take classes in "how to be a hoe" to be this lacking in self respect? And what do her family think? Was she raised by people who thought this would be ok, or did she figure it out all by herself?
I know that if it was my daughter doing this, I would feel that I had done the worst parenting job to have raised a kid who not only thought this crap was ok, but actively sought publicity for her method of expressing her individuality and sexuality (AND used her real name).
This is not about whether porn is good or bad; this is about the humanity behind the photographs, so lacking in self respect that spreading their vulva to show the world (as per the pics below) is not just ok, but something to be proud of, some sort of sick achievement. Of course, if women didn't do it, men would have nothing to look at, but they are only men and many simply can't help themselves.
And if you really want to see what all the fuss is about, look at this and this and this and this.
But be warned, it's really NOT nice. It's just skanky and a very sad indictment on our society. If this is the way even a small percentage of our youth think, no wonder teen suicide is climbing.
/end rant

In charge
Bloody cellphones and bloody chargers. I have two cellphones and two car chargers, right? Well I HAD two cellphones until my car charger blew up and took my cellphone with it. So now I'm down to one of each and now I have switched my number onto the spare cellphone, I have to decide whether to replace the dud with the same one (all remaining chargers will fit then) or buy a second hand Kyocera (which takes the same charger as the Sony) or buy something completely different and end up with all these different chargers in the house (bearing in mind Heather has different 2 fones and 2 chargers as well).
Decisions decisions.

Templars in the Knight
Right, I know all about the Second Messiah now,

but you'll have to read the book yourself to find out. It sort of explains the year Dot, too. Sort of.
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Really, it's not worth the grief. Trust me.

Vain
The invention of the internet and computers and digital imagery did for graphics and pictures what cheap and easy access to paper did for vanity publishing; it let everyone who wanted to create, publish and distribute what they saw in their mind's eye to a far wider audience than would otherwise have been possible. Not since the invention of cave walls and pigments on a stick has there been anything like a common or garden household computer to allow anyone who can take a photo and use a mouse the ability to turn out their own, personal Masterpiece.

to

Not Vanity Publishing, more like Vanity Exhibiting. I suppose that makes us exhibitionists.
I quite like this one, I might leave it on my desktop for a few days. Isn't it funny how you can't beat the real thing for an intrinsic purity. That's bullshitese for realism.
You knew that, huh.

Gone dotty
Remember all the fuss about the Y2K bug and when the sky was predicted to fall when the clocks turned over at Midnight on January 1 2000? Remember all the controversy about whether 2000 years was up then or a year later on January 1 2001? You remember, the "2000 years is 2000 years" brigade versus the "no such year as Year 0" bods?
Well at the moment I am reading The Second Messiah by Robert Lomas and Christopher Knight (yes Jamie, I'm well into it now lol) who I am sure are familiar to you after my ramblings about Uriel's Machine. Anyway, it got me thinking as I was reading that there's something really fucked up here.
We commonly count back to the birth of Christ as being the years AD - Anno Domini, meaning "In the Year of the Lord" and the years preceeding that as BC - "before Christ", right? 2AD; 1AD, 1BC; 2BC etc etc ad nauseum and people talk about something going "back to the year Dot" right? But to have a "before" and an "after" you have to have a "now" or a Dot and someone seems to have left it out of the calendar. So what happened to the year Dot (or "0")? What about all the people who were born in the year Dot? Did they suddenly cease to be or something cos like, they had that year pulled out from under them? And if AFTER the year Dot people called the preceeding years "BC" what did they use to date themselves when they were still "BC" and "AD" hadn't be written yet (cos Christ hadn't been born then, right?)?
I think I better go read some more, cos if the First Messiah caused all this shit, the Second Messiah can probably sort it out.
I'll keep you posted with what I find out.
