Mind boggling
Google have excelled themselves.
They have released the first version of Google Earth.
Google Earth is a dynamic atlas that runs on your PC, providing access to all parts of the globe via 3-D images taken from satellites.
Ever wanted to do a fly-by of somewhere in the world? Google Earth will take you anywhere you want to go, at the scroll of a mouse. Some places aren't very detailed yet (like all of NZ) but most places are incredibly realistic.
Visit Buckingham Palace

or fly over Mt St Helens

or even check out Tauranga, NZ
.
If you have W2K or WinXP and a broadband connection, you can download from the link above and play Google Earth, too.
You won't be disappointed.

Bubba's new bitch
The filthy, snivelling bastard that is the ex leader of the Christian Heritage Party is now looking at a long stretch on the wrong side of the prison's bars after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting and raping girls younger than 12. Hopefully, Graham Capill's new bedmate will be a big boy named Bubba, hung like an elephant and looking for a new bitch. Then Bubba could have the pleasure of raping the (theoretically virgin) asshole that is Graham Capill.
Now, we all know that paedophiles get hidden away where ordinary inmates can't fuck with them, but if there really is a God, Graham will find himself at the bottom of the sexual offender pecking order, the one being required to pick up the soap on very regular basis and while his ever loving and supportive wife can send him all the soap-on-a-ropes she likes, I don't think it's gonna save his crybaby ass. I'm sure that even ordinary sex offenders have kids at home that they care about.
I bet Graham learns a new Way to Pray. Real fast. On all fours.
WOOF
My ex brother in law is a convicted paedophile and his beatings were organised by the screws. I don't think Graham is going to get a lot of sympathy.
And that's just as it should be. Innit?

Lost in Space
Even in the in the still of the night, we are still moving at nine hundred miles an hour and we look like this from Space:

I guess everyone has seen this image by now.

Wouldn't it have been cool to go out there, out into space, just once?
I wish I was an astronaut
Stowed safely in my pod
Tanned and fit and long and lean
With my billion dollar bod
A fancy orange suit I'd wear
Or a high-tech plastic shell
And in lieu of fancy showers in space
Aircon ducts would trap the smell
With sticky boots upon my feet
I could hang there from the roof
But it's really hard when upside down
To look suitably aloof
And all those fancy switches there
With their pretty flashing lights
Knowing me I'd hit the wrong one
And give myself a fright
Going faster than a fast thing
Orbiting around the Earth
I'd have to be so mindful
Of what my jalopy's worth
The world spinning below me
Always sunrise or sunset
Dark or light and hot or cold
And always dry or wet
In space there is no up and down
Just a vast, endless "out there"
So I'd need to take big nana naps
To travel any where
Cos, if I looked away from Earth
And gazed right out into space
Behind would be a cosmic fart
Where lives the human race

Turning Japanese
In Tokyo, you can drop into the local takeaway and grab a whale burger. No shit - Moby is now a Minke on rye and hold the mayo.
Down the street a bit, you can pop in for a whale of a tasty and tangy curry, steak, stew or bacon (and eggs).
So much for whaling in the name of research. It's really not on, you know.
Back in 1850, the Reverend Henry T. Cheever was cruising the Pacific in a Boston whaler, and he wrote a diary describing the adventure. It was a pretty sad and hard life working a whaler, and the idle hours waiting for a whale to blow were spent making scrimshaw.

Pie crimper

Game board
They went to sea for years at a time and in their ships they carried a reminder of all things left behind in their figurheads

Carved figurheads
And, of course, whalers were still in the process of hunting these mainly gentle giants to extinction; whales were still plentiful. But at least they were utilising all of the beast, unlike the wanton destruction of the buffalo in America.
It's all very sad. Things dying always is.

When good blogs go bad
Sorry about the big gap in the posts - blogger went crackers and I'm waiting for their tech support to get back to me as to why it's done this again.
Last time it pulled this shit I spent days rebuilding the blog with a new template because nothing else worked but I can't be stuffed doing that all over again.
Not unless someone holds a gun to my head.
UPDATE:
I knew it wasn't me!
" Hi there,

Dog tucker
Why do we have all these pieces of glass and china to eat off when the dog only has one bowl?
Wouldn't life be simpler if we all just had our trencher to eat out of like they did in Samuel Pepys day, with our small eating/stabbing knife and not have all the extra garbage choking up the cupboards and demanding to be washed?
It's a dog's life, you know.

Retropolis
Remember playing Othello when you were a kid? What about those electronic Simon Says games? Noughts and Crosses?
You can play them all here. Go on, live a little.
I hired a DVD the other day, another of my favs. It's "Fried Green Tomatoes" and if you haven't seen it, it has all these cool old cars and locos in it. Not to mention the late, great Jessica Tandy. She was some actress. Don't panic, it still has all these features if you have seen it, too.
The kids were amazed at the black people being called "niggers" and being whipped and made to sit apart from the white people. "We hang niggers just as fast in Georgia as they do here in Alabama".
We talked about the Ku Klux Klan, how they originated and how insidiously socially deviant they were and still are.
We talked (briefly) about cannibalism and just who else might have eaten Big George's BBQ apart from the Georgia Laaaw Eeinfaawsment Officer. ("eewww Mum, they didn't really eat Frank, did they??"
We talked about the Great Depression and why people were homeless, starving and living in tent encampments.
All that intelligent conversation from just one $2 rental movie, and they still had to argue about who had the remote last...

Quizzical
More quizzes, dears :-)
What Kind of Elitist Are You?

You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every book ever published.
You are a fountain of endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and never fail to impress at a party.
What people love: You can answer almost any question people ask, and have thus been nicknamed Jeeves.
What people hate: You constantly correct their grammar and insult their paperbacks.
What Kind of Soul Are You?
You Are a Visionary Soul

You are a curious person, always in a state of awareness. Connected to all things spiritual, you are very connect to your soul. You are wise and bright: able to reason and be reasonable. Occasionally, you get quite depressed and have dark feelings.
You have great vision and can be very insightful. In fact, you are often profound in a way that surprises yourself. Visionary souls like you can be the best type of friend. You are intuitive, understanding, sympathetic, and a good healer.
Souls you are most compatible with: Old Soul and Peacemaker Soul
Amen.
Love, the Visionary Elitist Snob-Soul
PS - could have been worse, could have been an R-Soul ;-P

Colour me fucked
I don't really like the colour red. Not when it radiates (or is the irradiates) from one whole leg, glowing brightly with enough heat to warm the house; enough glare to illuminate the room.
Enough pain to make me think tonight is Two-Doob Monday. And lots of Bailey's in milk.
Some nights look almost long enough to sample those wee codeine tablets. Anything for a short reprieve, you know?
It's not that I've come to hate MS
More that MS has come to hate me
Locked in with this fire
Creeping flames rising higher
In a place that I'd rather not be.
Everywhere is a place that I'd rather not be.
I am nuclear. I am da bomb.
Sperm donor pulled some major heavy duty shit on his kids a couple of weekends ago. He was so rotten, so horrid that now they want nothing to do with him, no access, no phone calls, zilch. And whilst he may moan on the phone to me about how stupid he is, he still can't see that in failing to have the balls to insist that his new wife let him be a part of his kids growing up, he failed them in every way possible and now they can see him for what he is - [insert adjective here].
I'd almost feel sorry for the him, if it hadn't been my childrens lives he risked whilst driving erratically in one of his violent, shitty tempers and scaring the crap out of them in the process.
To offset his father not taking him to trains anymore, we have organised one of the train club guys to be Adam's supervisor, and now he can go to the club and learn about the locomotives for the whole of every Sunday afternoon if he wants to. He started yesterday and had a brilliant afternoon.
Sometimes it doesn't take a lot to make a kid happy.

Get rocked
What do all great rock bands and artists have in common? No, not sex and drugs.
Guitars.
Lita's got one (or is it two?).

So had (has) Phil Lynott and Gary Moore.

Brian May has one his Dad made for him.

Dave Gilmour's made us comfortably numb,

and The Edge defined U2's unique sound.

Clapton is The Master,

with Mark Knoffler not far behind

and Bruce Springsteen and Melissa Etheridge
took it from Country to Rock and back again.

But Paul McCartney's violin (or Beatle) bass
Hofner is the very best of all

because it looks just_like_mine!

Now, if only I could play it.
Shit, making that post was a lot of fun! No, Miriam, you can't have the Hofner. And don't email me and tell me I left out Hendrix - you know I hate Hendrix. But I'll post a pic of ya Washburn 5 string bass and ya Gibson if you send me another one, cos I can't find them.
UPDATE: Em's Washburn 5 string bass AND the Gibson.

;-P

The Emperor's new clothes
The lustrous (read oily) Brian Tamaki is getting himself some new strokes today.
A Bishopric.
He is investing himself (comes after inventing, you know) a new title for his masses of flocking sheep to worship. And 3,000 of his most his Faithful can join in the Fellowship and Glory in their leader's benevolence at today's ceremony, for the sum of $55 per head. Of course, they must wear suits (cos jeans aren't welcome so the poor people better have spent the food money on the right gear) or his boys will likely throw them to the wolves (but probably not before they have taken the money).
"Destiny Church followers are this morning preparing themselves for what is being seen as the event of the year on the church's calendar.
Destiny founder Brian Tamaki is to become a bishop today.
His ordination will take place in Auckland in front of Maori Leaders, church representatives and followers.
He was accorded his title in February by ministers and pastors of Destiny's 21 churches.
The ceremony coincides with the Church's seventh birthday and tickets for the three thousand seat venue have sold out.
Delayed coverage of the ordination will be broadcast on Destiny Church's website."

Brian Tamaki - Grecian2005 Man
How self-absorbed can one be? Destiny Church is becoming political, too. Like Hell I want to see these religious types having major input to our social policies - Graham Capill, anyone? I'd say God Help us except I think Brian's got Him screwed, too.
UPDATE: Those not able to make a cash donation when the plate went around at the investiture this afternoon were apparently offered the use of EFTPOS facilities afterwards, I suppose so that they wouldn't be feel left out.
One of Adam's past classmates came from a Tamaki Tribe; at 9 or 10 his father took him to Wellington to protest against homosexuality on the steps of Parliament. That says a lot about the mentality of the people who worship these false Prophets and Idols.
Now, so sez the grapevine, the Elim church are canvassing schools in Thames to find out which have homosexual teachers so that they can have the schools boycotted. I mean, WTF is up with that?
About those witchburnings...
"There were those that came to power, through domination.
They were bonded in their worship of a dead man on a cross."

Eat me
"Sir Elton John's partner David Furnish unveiled a chocolate statue of his famous other half today, declaring he looked good enough to eat (oh puhleeeze).
The pop star has been immortalised in chocolate at Madame Tussaud's in London to celebrate Cadbury's centenary year.
On seeing the edible 126kg statue for the first time, David exclaimed: 'It's absolutely spectacular. The way the light shines on the chocolate looks so life-like, they've done a really good job.
"What could be better than to take the person you love and dip them in chocolate. It is the type of thing I would love to keep."
David said he hoped Elton would be delighted at the results.
"I take my hat off to them, it looks fantastic. They've done an amazing job of capturing Elton's sense of joy, spirit and lust for life. It is so life-like it looks like they have taken the real Elton and dipped him in chocolate."
David also took the opportunity to wish Michael Jackson all the best. He said: "We don't know him very well. I have only met him once. I just wish him all the best and hope he can rebuild his life and get on with things."
David also said plans are ongoing for he and Elton's up-coming wedding, which he said would be held in the UK.
The tasty chocolate figure, which took more than 1000 hours to create, will be on display at Madame Tussauds in a specially built air-conditioned tent until the autumn."

I wonder which bit Davey-boy will eat first?.

Dream on
Ok, so I did it. I couldn't help myself. But I'm not the slightest bit sorry.
I bought a DVD; the Visual One demanded it.
I bought a copy of one of my favourite movies - "What Dreams May Come". Now, you may have heard of this film or you may have seen this film, and while I may be a closet mushy romantic who almost thinks to snivel at the end of "Ghost" (you know, the one with the yummy young version of Patrick Swayze and the delightful Whoopi Goldberg) and then only cos everyone else does, that is definitely NOT why I bought this. I bought it cos of the way cool images in it.
Stunning images.
The focus of the movie has to be the most amazing blended array of visual imagery that can be seen in one place; with a unique style something akin to Claude Monet

meets Francisco de Goya.

On acid. And it's hard to see where physical movie set meets computer graphics mastery.
Unfortunately, there are very few of the stunning movie images actually available to "borrow" off the net and the ones that are there don't do it justice, so I will just have to wait until I finally get around to buying a DVD jobbie to go in Ol' Shitbox before I can take some decent screenshots. Until then, you (like me) will just have to be satisfied with these ones.

Having Robin Williams in it was definitely an added bonus. That marvellous man with the rubber face that looks like it feels more on the outside than most people feel on the inside totally rocks.
You don't have to have a WETA, Pete, to make it look a billion dollars. Besides, in 9 hours, I can watch this 6 times ;-)
(Imagine how good it would have been with Gary Sinise in there, too...)

Driving to America
Some people fly, some go by boat, while others take a taxi.
A group of 13 Cubans set sail for the 140km journey Cuba to Florida crossing in a vintage blue taxicab converted into an theroretically seaworthy vessel.

Then the police stopped them (hehe, maybe in the Bay of Pigs??).
I wonder what they charged them with... driving on the wrong side of the ocean? Unregistered vessel? Not wearing a seatbelt? No license?
What, what? I need to know.
They should have let 'em in cos the car was American.
This one would have gone faster; bummer about the limited seating:

"hey i b'lieve mines faster then yours Mr Bond 'cause mine's a red one" - Kevin Bloody Wilson

Reading: about desperate people who would sail a car to America. I mean really, look at the colour of it.
Listening to: the cat whine.

Taking it to the masses
The Visual One has kicked in - I'm devouring books, surfing art and making images which I then throw away. I could really use a laptop and tablet right about now.
Some of the most recent surfing highpoints have been:
Rafal Olbinski

deviantART

Jacek Yerka

Julian Beeve

Diane Romanello

and (as previously mentioned)
Puco Romeu

I never could cope with cherubs and shit like that. I'm not too enthralled by Japanese art, either.
Call me fussy.
Here is the Museum of Bad Art, if that's what tightens your knicker elastic.

Sonja Davies

(Pic nicked from
monumentalstories.gen.nz)
Sonja Davies was one of those strong women. You know the sort - smart, canny, honest, motivated, committed, capable.
An admirable woman, by any standard.
And she was a caring woman. She spent her life battling odds and tilting at windmills; as a Member of Parliament, as a trade union leader, as as an author, as an unwed mother of a wartime baby, as a woman with tuberculosis. Truly, an impressive, inspirational character.
She wrote a book about her life, "Bread and Roses" and a movie was made. She wrote another book, Marching On.
Sonja Davies was a woman worthy of sincere admiration.

(Original Sonja Davies image
sourced from Wairarapa Times.)
Sonja Davies died today; she was 81.

Bring a plate
Do you own a Dodge? Are you a dodgy bastard?
This plate is owned by a dodgy bastard; I mean, he sez he'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater than watch CSI on TV ;-)

His name is Neil and you can buy this plate off him.
I think I'd rather have the GTO it currently sits on, myself; I already know I'm dodgy hehe
"If you can't afford a Dodge, dodge a Ford".

What colour is your rodent?
Do you know where your mouse is? Merlin did, or so he thought.
There he was, toying happily with his latest catch in the hallway when along comes Loopy, swipes it off him and proceeds to the kitchen where she fends off allcomers in her quest to keep her booty.

Definitely 10/10 for Feline style, gracelessness and lack of manners as opposed to 1/10 for my shocking photography. I didn't realise how shakey I was until I saw these come off the camera. Unfortunately, this was the best one.
Ahh, rats. Merlin's not impressed, either.
At a convention of biological scientists, one prominent researcher remarked to another, "Did you know that in our lab we have switched from mice to lawyers for our experiments?"
"Really?" the other researcher replied. "Why did you switch?"
"Well, for three reasons. First, we found that lawyers are far more plentiful. Second, the lab assistants don't get so attached to them, and thirdly there are some things even a rat won't do."

Search me
The TV News just reported that Google is rated the most valuable media company in the world with a value of $US80 billion.
Wouldn't it be nice to own a slice of THAT pie.
A big slice. I do like pie.

What a dude
Adam had a big night out last week. Here he is all ready for his first real school social.

Heather's passport has arrived, Adam's won't be far behind and all I have left to organise for their trip to Oz is their bags, a cheap digital camera for them to take with them and how I'm going to get to the Airport at 5am for check in, and 10 days later at 11.30pm for touch down.
I have a month to get my act together.

Things not to say to a person with MS
"How are you".
Do you really want to know? Then be prepared to try to listen, it should only take an hour. Then you won't fall into the trap of #2.
"You are looking great".
Do you know how long we worked to get this much of our excrement all in the same location? Yeah, we're looking bloody marvellous until we fall over. We're hanging together with bits of elastic, some #8 wire and a whole pot of Polyfilla. Talking to someone who thinks we look great is inclined to make us want to cry. Or go home. Either way, it's not looking promising.
"Oh, I know just how you feel".
Ok. I didn't know you had been run down by a herd of buffalo, a tribe of Indians on horseback, half a hundred prairie dogs and one lone sheep this morning, too.
"You should try this remedy, it will make everything so much better".
So will a firearm. And apparently drinking my own urine would help, too.
"It is God's will"
B O L L O C K S.
Me and this God fella have some serious straightening out to do in that case. Send him on around, I'm always home.
"Just do it when you feel better".
I am quite certain that, if the time should come when I actually do feel better, I can think of a few things of my own to spend my time on.
"Your house/garden needs a bit of a tidy up".
Well, what are you standing there for? If it bothers you, get to work. I didn't realise you were here to see the garden.
"You need to get out more, spend time with people".
Yeah? How does spending time with people who say "Hi, how are you? You are looking great, you must have been taking those deer velvet capsules I recommended and drinking your own urine" encourage me to leave the building?
"Oh come on, just show up for a few hours".
A few hours? See above.
"I've been so busy".
Yeah? Lucky you. I've been busy, too. Mainly sleeping.
"It's only a few steps to climb up".
It's a few too many, mate.
"What was that? What you just said didn't make sense".
It bloody did when I thought of it, shame the mouth got the message wrong.
"But I told you 3 times, don't you remember"?
Yeah, you told me three times when the kids were fighting, the TV was yelling full noise and there were 3 other conversations happening around us. Sorry, I can't separate your crap from the rest, it all sounds the same to me.
We seldom say very much, but this is what at least one of us sometimes thinks.
I wrote this run down of things MS can apply to it's posessor 2 years ago - my sense of humour was much less bitter then, much less pithy.
But I didn't hurt as much then, either.

Well,
We went to Hitch-hiker's Guide on Saturday afternoon.
Zaphod rocked,

Marvin sucked.

Slartibartfast (played by the same guy that was "Viktor"
in Underworld) was just as I felt he should have been

and the mice were uppity little white bastards.
Rating:
We went to Star Wars last night

and Adam went to sleep.
Rating:
(Would have been 5 stars iffn Gary Sinise had been in it)
Random Fortunes here.
Strange pictures here.
Cringe your way down fashion-memory lane here.
Relieve stress here.
That's as good as it gets tonight, I'm so sick I wish I'd gone ahead and had that coffin-table made.
There's no point whining about a broken fingernail; you have the rest of your life to grow a new one.

Sweet as
Geez, I hope they have blueberry jam when we go shopping this week. They didn't have any last week and we are almost out.
Waiouru is snowed in, there is snow on the Paraparas and the Napier/Taupo road is closed by snow tonight. Maybe Godzone ends a wee bit further North than Taupo cos it sure is chilly out.
Happy birthday Caroline :-)

Birdies
This comes courtesy of Terry
The Kiki bird - a smallish bird with bright orange beak and huge blue balls; when it lands in the snow it calls out: ki-ki-ki-rist it's cold!
And it is cold, anyone would think winter was here. The Desert road is about to close and it's not very nice out there on the central plateau. It's also snowing in Otago.
Which could be why I am here instead. Remember, Godzone ends at Taupo.
Mainlanders... pffft
