I should be in bed
but I'm too tired to walk that far, so while I'm psyching myself into it, I'm stumbling around the web taking in the scenery. Like this
*starts humming the Galaxy Song*

I should send that one to Muzz, he digs that space stuff, Hubble and Cassini etc. He's right into SETI now as well, you know the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence organisation.
I can't help noticing that SETI has ET in the middle of it. I'm very observant like that. Does that mean they are now trying to backtrace his phone number?
Speaking of Muzz, we had out triannual coffee day last Sunday. That means that about every three or four months, we go out and drink double shot bowls of cappucino (and he eats cake) and watch the world wander through the middle of the Mount on a Sunday morning, before strolling around the artyfarty shops to see what's new since last time. Seeing classic rolling iron parading up and down main drag is something of an added bonus.
There is some seriously weird shit in some of those shops. And my painting is gone.
Well, anyway, last Sunday we did all that and we wandered through the Warehouse and I bought a couple of DVDs - The Wall and Smash Palace. Another one added to my Bruno Lawrence collection. And my Floyd collection.
I like Bruno Lawrence. And Floyd.
I don't like someone else having my painting [sigh]
PS does anyone know anything about a reported UFO sighting around the Ngatea/Hauraki Plains area in the mid to late 60s maybe? It was supposedly reported in the paper. Please email me if you do, the link is over there, pinned on the wall above the clock >>>>>

All steamed up
We went into school tonight to look at the Year 8 Science Fair projects that were judged the best in each class. There were lots of them. But not many had what Adam's one had on it - a yellow sticker which signifies his entry is in the finals.
His project consisted of using his stationary steam engine to test the heating efficiency of various fuels - how long would each take to boil 20mls of water?

He did a lot of hard work and we are very proud of him. Just occasionally, it does pay to like things other than Playstation and Yu-gi-oh cards.
PS - burning turpentine under a boiler is really not an indoor pursuit. Trust me.

Another year older
No, not me; my sister. She's a lot older than me, you understand. Way, way older. Like 3.5 years. She doesn't like birthdays and she is very hard to buy presents for, so this year I thought I would give her something very dear to my heart.
No, not my computer fool,I can't live without that. I'm giving her my kids.
I just know she will grow to detest them as much as me when they start fighting over the television, the computer, the remote, the couch/chair (with Nushie thrown in to even up the weight distribution), the front seat of the car. That's what sisters are for, to torture and torment. She might have a huge headstart on me, but I'm catching up.
Someone is going to die - if I'm very, very lucky it might just be me.
Happy birthday Rae, I'm still wrapping your present.
... I wonder if she'll even let them in the Merc...?

Sharp, eh?
I want one of these.

Cool, eh? But I think it would be more authentic looking done in casual trousers, polo shirt and wearing specs and a beard, with nice red blood stains dripping down it. Then it would look so realistic I could give it a name.
I wonder what name I'd give it...?

POTD
Phrase of the day:
Laugh like a drain
Meaning
To laugh coarsely or loudly.
Origin
Like water going down a drain.
What sort of bloody drains do these people have?

All done in the best POSSIBLE taste
Back in the late 70s and early 80s, Maurice Cole was one of the funniest men on British (and New Zealand) television. He brought us such gems as Cupid Stunt, Sid Snot and Brother Lee Love.
You probably remember him as Kenny Everett.

A man of great (and usually irreverent or downright off colour) humour, he had a quip and an answer to everyone for everything and I'm sure that the man who said this, "I...FOUGHT...for people like you, and I never got one!"(once said to David Bowie) would probably have come out with something as nasssty as this:
A journalist interviews Sir Paul McCartney:
"So, Sir Paul, do you think that you will ever
go down on one knee again?"
Sir Paul: "I'd prefer it if you called her Heather".
But Kenny has been gone now for 11 years, so its up to people like Popbitch to do it for him.
Well what do you expect from people who send out links in their emails to a site that has cats that look like Hitler?
But seriously, it was funny. I mean, at his age he'd probably topple over without two.

This is Henry.

Actually, it's a whole lot of Henries. Eight of them.
I bet you can't tell which one is Henry the Eighth.
Neither can I.

Feeling vitriolic
Have you heard of Fet-Mats Israelsson?
Bet ya haven't.
Fet-Mats Israelsson was a Swedish copper miner who never came home one day in 1677. Yes he was and 42 years later in 1719, some other copper miners came across his body underground. He was recognised by his former girlfriend and I guess she liked having him back because over a period of time, his body became very hard and dried up. He was petrified.
Well, wouldn't you be?
Anyway, that's what the called him, "the petrified miner". Finally, someone figured out that he wasn't petrified, he was covered with vitriol which is like sulphuric acid and stuff to us everyday proles. When it all evaporated he would sort of fall apart.
And he finally did in 1749.
30 years is a bloody long time to be petrified. Or is it...

Chill, baby
It's a bit cold here, we even have the big gas heater going for the first time this year. Merlin is very appreciative, too.
But it's quite a bit colder down south

That's the South Island all rugged up under a thick blanket of snow, right down to sea level - over half a metre in some towns and more in remote areas. The skifields are looking at a fabulous base for the ski season... when they can get the roads open and the power back on. The staff were tramping up the mountain today because the roads were blocked.
Last night's TV news coverage gave a few minutes info about the snowbound South, with no power or transportation, phones or roads, and 15 minutes about all the poor JAFAs in Auckland who had no power all day to make their cappucinos and their lattes and the problems of traffic congestion and idiot drivers when a power line malfunctioned in high winds and took out some main feeders.
And the traffic lights.
Just how do you spell "diddums"?

Grin and bear it
BBC America
A black bear got more than it bargained for after straying into a family garden in the US state of New Jersey.
The unwelcome intruder was forced up a tree - twice - by the family pet, a tabby cat called Jack.
The terrified bear was only able to make its escape when owner Donna Dickey called the hissing cat into the house.
Ms Dickey said Jack liked to keep a close watch on his territory and often chased away small animals, but one of this size was a first.
"We used to joke, 'Jack's on duty', never knowing he'd go after a bear," Donna Dickey told local newspaper The Star-Ledger.
"He doesn't want anybody in his yard," she added.
The bear was first spotted in the tree by neighbours who thought the 15lb (7kg) cat was just looking up at it.
They then realised the bear was afraid of the cat.
After some 15 minutes, the bear descended, but was chased up another tree, before finally making its escape when Jack was called indoors.
Bear sightings are not unusual in the area of West Milford in New Jersey, which experts say is one of the state's most bear-populated areas.

Maybe they should rename the cat "Stutz"? Ok, was just a thought...

Sunday funny Sunday
Ads came home this afternoon with this joke:
Two builders, working hard out one day and one builder says to the other builder "when I get home, I'm going to rip my wife's knickers off".
Other builder says "oh really, why?"
First builder says "because they are bloody uncomfortable".
What, you want more? Go find your own 12 year old to bring home some jokes, then. And don't forget to mail them to me.

Tenacious in Black
We love Jack Black. We also love Tenacious D.
What do they have in common? Well, Jack Black.
Weird and wacky, there is nothing these guys won't sing, say or do to amuse their devotees. From "Fuck Her Gently",

the spoof of Spiderman with Sarah Michelle Gellar and the incomparable spoof of The Lord of the Rings (aka Lord of the Piercing; aka Lord of the Cockrings, also with Sarah Michelle Gellar)

to songs such as "Tribute", and our family favourite, I'm The Only Gay Eskimo" Jack Black and Tenacious D simply rock.
"I'm the only gay eskimo
I'm the only one I know
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe
I go out seal hunting with my best friend Tarka
But all I wanna do is get into his parka
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe
Well .. me an nut fluck chuck buck, we both like blubber
But me I've got this crazy fetish for rubber
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe
I make a wish on the northern lights
That I could get a decent pair of whale skin tights
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe
And the seals they sing now
*seal noises*
These cold winter nights are taking their toll
I even get excited when I see the north pole
See the north pole
I'm the only gay eskimo
I'm the only one I know
I'm the only gay eskimo
In my tribe"
Listen to it here "I'm the only gay Eskimo" or right click the link and save as to listen later. Better still, go buy some Tenacious D. You know you want it.
Sounds a wee bit like Daffyd, the only gay in the village. But without the brightly coloured PVC hotpants. Or the cutoff denim hotpants.

Powerful
This is a poignant reminder of what nuclear power does for the world.

Not for the faint-hearted (or dial-up), but you may find it worth the wait.

The cleanest cellphone in town
no, not mine. Heather's. You see, you can always tell when she's run out of credit cos she stops wearing it like a skin graft 24/7. And leaves it in her uniform skirt pocket. Which she then leaves on the bathroom floor with the wet shower towels. Which of course get put in the wash, don't they?
You see where this is heading, huh...
Now Merlin is sitting on it on top of my monitor. Drying it out, just in case it's not rubbish bag fodder.
If anyone is that tin-arsed, it's her.

For the Devil he may take ye
D-Day (and Devil Day) and the most evil time of all - 06:06:06 06/06/06
Bugger. I missed it.
Happy D-Day.
"Woe to you Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six." - Iron Maiden, The Number of the Beast.
And Happy Birthday Em, hope you had a real ripper of a day (said in best aussie strine), I didn' think you'd mind sharing your wee space here with Iron Maiden.

Coming out
OK, time to confess (cos it's good for the Soul, apparently) - we are addicted to Tuesday nights. Actually, it's not so much Tuesday nights as such, but rather what is on TV on Tuesday nights.
Yes, it's all true; we are addicted to Little Britain. And how could we not be with such a varied band of wonderful weirdoes, mostly portrayed by just a couple of men.
As could be expected, there are a few who really take our fancy, like Lou and Andy - caring caregiver Lou and his theoretically wheelchair bound caree Andy Pipkin. Catch cries: "I want that one" and "yer, I know"
Go on, push the play button. PUSH IT.
